Obsolete Gaulois Squeeze Pistol

.
.
Obsolete Calibre Gaulois 8mm Squeeze Pistol in good, original condition. The nickel finish has some pitting, but it is mechanically very good. The Gaulois Squeeze Pistol was first introduced in 1893 by the French company of Manufacture Française d’Armes de Saint-Étienne and stayed in production until 1912. It was first known as `Le Mitrailleuse’, but the name was changed after a few years to Le Gaulois. This very early example has the barrel stamped Mitrailleuse and the very early serial number of 958, so was made in the first year of production, 1893. It was a simple mechanical mechanism that fired and reloaded the cartridge from the internal magazine when the palm of the hand was squeezed shut, hence its name. They were very popular because of their size and ease of use and were being carried right on up until WWII. Obsolete calibre, no license required.
