The RPD (Roochnoy Pulemyot Dyegtyar-yova – Hand held Machine gun of Degtyarev) was actually designed in 1943, with prototypes being tested in 1944 to 1945. However, due to the scale of losses in WWII, with regard to manufacturing capacity, and raw material shortages, it did not go into service until 1953. It is a very light weight LMG and was a reliable, extremely advanced design for its time. It is still in use with over 40 armies worldwide and is a reliable and robust design. All deactivated weapons sold by D and B Militaria are deactivated in the United Kingdom and hold London or Birmingham proof marks and a certificate stating that the weapon has been deactivated correctly. Can be redeactivated to EU/ UK spec.
