Deactivated Old Spec Hotchkiss Universal 9mm Sub Machine in very good, original deactivated condition, and fully folds up, as it should, including the barrel. The `Universal’, as it was known in France, was introduced in 1949 and remained in production until 1953. Apart from the obvious ability to fold up for transport or concealed carry, it was also unusual in that it fires from a closed bolt. This, along with its long barrel, made it more accurate than most of its rivals. It was also capable of semi and fully automatic fire. It served with the French Paras early on in Indochina, but not much was seen of it after that. It is generally accepted that most ended up in the hands of the French Secret Service, the SDECE, but no more is known. An interesting part of firearms history. All deactivated weapons sold by D and B Militaria are deactivated in the United Kingdom and hold a London or Birmingham proof mark and certificate stating that the weapon has been deactivated correctly. Can be redeactivated to EU/ UK spec.
