The Hotchkiss M1909 series of machine guns were a light machine gun of the early 20th century, developed and built by the French company of Hotchkiss. It was also known as the Hotchkiss Mark I/ I*, Hotchkiss Portative and M1909 Benét–Mercié. The British began production in 1915, in Coventry and had made 40,000 by 1918. They continued in Service with the British Army until the end of WWII, though by then most were issued to the Home Guard and for air defence and static defence duties. They were in use, in a variety of calibres, by over twenty countries, including China, Russia, and India, until well into the 1960s. This is because they were massively over engineered, and therefore very strong and reliable, if maintained properly. All deactivated weapons sold by D and B Militaria are deactivated in the United Kingdom and hold a London or Birmingham proof mark and certificate stating that the weapon has been deactivated correctly. Can be redeactivated to EU/ UK spec.
