Deactivated British RAF Hispano-Suiza MK V 20mm Aircraft Cannon in very good condition, with working action. Complete with display stand and framed paperwork/ provenance. This particular example was used in the wings of a Spitfire during WWII and in a RAF Vampire Jet post war. The Hispano-Suiza Cannon was originally a French/ Swiss design and first appeared in 1938. It fired the 20mm Hispano Type A round, that was capable of punching through an aircraft’s fuselage easily at 6000 yards! This is the British MK V version, that fires from a 60 round drum magazine. It was probably fitted in either a Hawker Tempest or a Mosquito, but we are not aircraft experts. It was a relatively light weight weapon for its class and was a reliable design that was in British service until the late 1950s. They can still be found in third world countries, mostly used in the anti-aircraft role, as they are built to last, if maintained properly. P+P on this item will be £100 for the UK mainland. All deactivated weapons sold by D and B Militaria are deactivated in the United Kingdom and hold London or Birmingham proof marks and a certificate stating that the weapon has been deactivated correctly and is legal within the U.K.
