Antique Rare British Pattern 1853 Double Barrelled .733 inch Cape Carbine in very good overall condition with working action. The Pattern 1853 Cape Carbine was designed as a double barrelled musket for British Cape Mounted Forces in Southern Africa. They were designed to be able to shoot both solid ball projectiles or shot, and to defend troops from attackers on two and four legs! They were made by Hollis and Sheath in Birmingham. It retains the large calibre of previous carbines even though the British Army was using the Pattern 1853 Rifle Musket which had a reduced bore. Only 500 carbines of this model were ordered 1853-1854 and it is unclear exactly how many were issued to troops in southern Africa. A rare British military firearm. Antique firearm. No Licence required.
