Antique British 28 Gauge Flintlock Shotgun by Thomas Monck, in excellent condition, with a tight, full working action and very good bore. Complete with a Damascus octagonal to round profile barrel, hand engraving, and beautiful walnut stock. A superb example of the English 19th century gunmakers art. Thomas Monck, of Stamford, Lincolnshire was a well known gunmaker from the 1820s until the early 1860s. Flintlock is the general term for any firearm based on the flintlock mechanism. The term may also apply to the mechanism itself. Introduced at the beginning of the 17th century, the flintlock rapidly replaced earlier firearm-ignition technologies, such as the Dog Lock, Matchlock and Wheelock mechanisms.
