Antique Very Rare US Military .52 Calibre Halls Rifle, dated 1831 Harpers Ferry manufacture, in good condition, with full working action (the hammer spring does function, but is weak). The M1819 Hall rifle was a single-shot breech-loading rifle designed by John Hancock Hall and adopted by the U.S. Army in 1819. It used a pivoting chamber breech loading design and most of the production run used a percussion cap ignition system. The main years of production were from the early 1820s to the mid 1830s. This was the first breech-loading rifle to be adopted in large numbers by any nation's army, and among the very first breech loaders adopted for use by an armed force anywhere in the world. This made it much quicker and easier to load than the weapons previously used. They quickly gained a reputation for being fast and accurate rifles and would have been a deadly weapon against massed ranks of infantry. They were used in the Indian Wars, the Mexican War, and the American Civil War. Obsolete Calibre Antique, no licence required.
