Antique Flintlock Elephant Gun

Antique English 6 Bore (1 Inch!) Flintlock Rifle in fair cosmetic, very good mechanical condition, with full working parts and very solid action. Warranted lock and English proof marks, along with a 46 inch rifled barrel. These early big game guns were used predominantly in Southern Africa, and were a favourite with the Boers. Elephants beware! Over 5 feet long and weighs approx. 15 lbs. Flintlock is the general term for any firearm based on the flintlock mechanism. The term may also apply to the mechanism itself. Introduced at the beginning of the 17th century, the flintlock rapidly replaced earlier firearm-ignition technologies, such as the Dog Lock, Matchlock and Wheelock mechanisms.
