Deactivated Imperial German Karabiner 98 AZ 7.92mm Carbine. 1916 dated Erfurt manufacture, in good deactivated condition. Introduced in 1908, the Karabiner 98 AZ was intended for cavalry, mountain troops and second line units, like artillerymen. It soon found favour with German `Shock Troops’ in World War One, as its short size and quick handling made it ideal for trench assaults and small raiding parties. They were taken out of service in 1923 and are now very rare. All deactivated weapons sold by D and B Militaria are deactivated in the United Kingdom and hold London or Birmingham proof marks and a certificate stating that the weapon has been deactivated correctly and is legal within the U.K.
